Two types of Bandsaw are in common use : wood cutting bandsaw and metal cutting bandsaw.

The wood cutting bandsaw is common in most workshops and used mainly for cutting flat shapes out of sheet materials such as ply, MDF and other manufactured boards. They are frequently used also for cutting sheet plastic, such as acrylic, but a separate blade should be used for this task.

Safety point! Students should only be trained to use band-sawing machines by a competent and trained person.
