Stakes are shaped pieces of Cast Iron or forged Steel over which metal is struck with Hammers or Mallets to create a desired form. (See also Blacksmith's Shaping Tools).


They are used extensively by Coppersmiths, Silversmiths, Jewellers, Tinsmiths and Blacksmiths for example.


The striking surface is highly polished and left unhardened to avoid the dangers associated with striking a Hardened surface with a hammer.
