Spotfacing

Spotfacing is used primarily to create a clean, flat seating to receive bolt heads and washers passing through drilled holes, particularly in castings where the surface finish may be rough.

It is important to provide a good flat seating under bolt heads to ensure an even distribution of force which otherwise might lead to the bolt shearing or the casting cracking.
