Description
A Blacksmiths Cross Pein Hammer differs from the Joiners' Warrington Pattern version in that it is much more robust with a stubby and stout Pein suitable for the heavier task of shaping hot metal.
Straight Pein Hammers (aka Peen) have the Pein running parallel to the shaft and Straight Pein Hammers at right angles to it. Diagonal Pein Hammers are also available and (necessarily) in both left and right handed versions.
Features and Uses
The Blacksmith's Cross Pein hammer is used for general forging work and is an alternative to using a Lump Hammer orSledge Hammer
Straight and diagonal Pein hammers can be used by Blacksmiths as Fullers for example. They are commonly available with head weights between 2lb and 4lb.
