Description
Two types of Bandsaw are in common use : wood cutting bandsaw and metal cutting bandsaw.
The wood cutting bandsaw is common in most workshops and used mainly for cutting flat shapes out of sheet materials such as Ply, MDF and other manufactured boards. They are frequently used also for cutting sheet plastic, such as acrylic, but a separate blade should be used for this task.
Features and Applications
Safety point! Students should only be trained to use band-sawing machines by a competent and trained person.
Metal cutting bandsaws are a more recent addition to school workshops and used to cut metal stock to length - a task which used to be more commonly undertaken with a reciprocating machine hacksaw. A Chop Saw is also used as an alternative for such work.
