Geometry concerns the study of lines, shapes, space, and form and the relationships between them. Geometry in two dimensions is known as Plane Geometry and when concerning objects in three dimensions is referred to as Solid Geometry.

Many principles of geometry were recorded by ancient Greek mathematicans, including: Pythagoras, Plato, Euclid and Archimedes, and from other ancient cultures. In recognition of this, much of the geometry used in design and technology is known as Euclidian Geometry and common 3D shapes are known as the Platonic Solids.

An understanding of geometry is fundamental to much of the work of engineers, designers and architects in addition to astronomers, scientsts, mathematicians and navigators - anyone, in fact, who deals with shape and form either natural or manufactured!
