Straight Pein Hammers (aka Peen) have the Pein running parallel to the shaft.

Uses

The straight Pein enables them to be used by Blacksmiths as Fullers for example. They are commonly available with head weights between 2lb and 4lb.

DT Online Buyers' Guide
  • A 2lb Straight Pein Hammer (1kg) is a suitable size for general work in Design and Technology.
  • Straight Pein (or Peen) hammers are more commonly used in the United States and therefore more easily available via a US supplier.

Note: An alternative is to re-shape an existing old Ball Pein Hammer head by forging it. The completed Straight Pein need not be hardened and tempered since it would be used for shaping hot metal.
