Embroidery
From DT Online
Description
Embroidery is the process of decorating fabrics with coloured threads or yarns and may also incorporate other materials such as beads or strips of metal or plastics. As with so many other techniques, it has been dated back to ancient China and has changed little since.
Features and Uses
A variety of stitches are used and the earliest form of Embroidery used a Cross Stitch. In early England, young girls produced embroidered cross stitch Samplers to learn to stitch and to record the alphabet for example. In more recent times, cross stitching is becoming increasingly popular with both boys and girls to personalise objects and make gifts.
