DT Online Buyers' Guide

  • 2lb to 4lb hammers (1-2kg) are a suitable size for general forge-work in Design and Technology since hammers heavier than 4lb would be difficult for students to use.
  • Straight Pein (or Peen) hammers are more commonly used in the United States and therefore more easily available via a US supplier. This is even more true of Diagonal Pein Hammers.

Note: An alternative is to re-shape an existing old forged steel Ball Pein Hammer head by re-forging it. The completed straight or diagonal 'Pein need not be hardened and tempered since they would be used for shaping hot metal.
