From DT Online
Young children not only enjoy designing, drawing, modelling and construction activities but also gain much from the experience.
There are obvious gains in terms of fine motor skills and the ability to visualise but they will also learn to measure, test and predict; to try out different ideas and solve practical problems. As they work, both individually and in groups, they will talk and write about what they are doing and learn to sequence processes to achieve a required outcome.
In this way, Design and Technology makes a valuable contribution to the general education of all children, especially in terms of numeracy, science and art and provides a meaningful learning context for the development of speaking, listening and writing.
