Description
A Holesaw is essentialy a short cylinder of steel (often HSS) with a saw-tooth cutting edge. They are mounted on an Arbor so they can be driven by a Power Drill or a Drill Press to cut large diameter holes into sheet materials - including wood, plastics and metals. A slow speed should be selected and a coolant, lubricant or cutting fluid used if drilling holes in steel or similar.
Features and Applications
The Arbors of good quality Holesaws have two driving dogs which engage with holes in the top of the saw to prevent it becoming over-tightened during use and subsequently difficult to release.
Holesaws are also available in sets as an adjustable holesaw but these are only suitable for light duty use in thin sheet Ply, plastics or non-ferrous metals for example.
- Choose only best quality HSS Holesaws if drilling through Steel and flood with coolant or Cutting Lubricant.
Safety Point! Use by hand or, if in a Drill Press or Power Drill, at slow speed only and ensure it is guarded or includes an integral Safety Cage. Holesaws included here as a safer alternative to Tank Cutters
