Description
A Gimlet is a small tool which can be used for drilling wood to create pilot holes for screws or holes to receive nails for example.
They often have a 'T' handle to provide the required Torque and a screw tip which draws the slightly tapered bit into the wood - so care must be taken when used near the end of a piece of timber to avoid splitting.
Features and Applications
The cutting action is similar to, and may also be referred to, as a Nail Bit, Snail Bit or Cobra Bit.
Small diameter Twist Drills set into a file handle or held in a Mini Hand Drill can be used for a similar purpose.
