Chop saws are circular saws fixed to pivoted arm such that they cut with a downwards ‘chopping’ motion although the term is usually applied to metal-cutting abrasive saws (hot saws), or cut-off saws (cold saws). Those for cutting wood are referred to as a Mitre Saw or Compound Mitre Saw if the blade can tilt (most chop saws allow the base to swivel for angled cuts).

Safety point! Power saws are extremely dangerous machines and should only be used under supervision and after appropriate training by specifically trained staff.

Note: Using a cold saw blade in another chop saw can cause them to burn out because of the the higher rate of revolutions.
