Description
The Heat Area is taken to mean that space in which Design and Technology processes using heat are carried out. These process include: Soldering, Brazing, Welding, Forging, Casting, Heat Treatment and can include some aspects of Thermoforming.
Features and Characteristics
A Heat Area should be well ventilated and preferably have access to the outside. Some equipment may require Local Exhaust Ventilation (L.E.V). Lighting should be capable of being dimmed when required (e.g. to allow steel tempering colours to the be seen) and the floor covering should be capable of withstanding hot objects being placed upon it (e.g. use ceramic tiles, metal chequer-plate, or concrete). There should be access to a sink and water supply but this should be at a distance from any Casting equipment.
